Acclaimed halftime performer Rong “Red Panda” Niu, who has performed countless times at Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers games over the years, was injured Tuesday night while performing during intermission of the WNBA Commissioner's Cup championship game between the Indiana Fever and Minnesota Lynx at Target Center.
Red Panda, renowned for riding her custom-built unicycle—measuring more than 7 feet tall—and expertly flipping and balancing metal bowls, fell early into her routine. She reportedly tumbled forward off her high-riding unicycle and appeared to injure her left wrist, clutching it as she lay on the court.
After the fall, Niu was assisted to the sideline. She initially stood with help but soon required a wheelchair escort off the court while staff cleaned the performance area to prepare for the second half. She was conscious and responsive during her exit, though there have been no official updates on the extent of her injuries .
Niu has been a fixture in the basketball halftime circuit since making her NBA debut in 1993. She earned widespread acclaim for her signature act, combining unicycling and bowl-balancing theatrics that have entertained fans at NBA, WNBA and college games for over three decades.
The Fever ultimately defeated the Lynx 74‑59, but focus turned to the fate of one of halftime entertainment’s most iconic figures. Team and league representatives have not released further comment regarding her health or recovery.
