Thunderstorms across eastern Pennsylvania rained out the second game of the San Diego Padres series against the Philadelphia Phillies, with the game rescheduled to take place as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday, July 2 at Citizens Bank Park.

The game originally slated for Wednesday will take place as scheduled at 10:05 a.m. and the second game will have a 3:15 p.m. start time.

San Diego (45-39) will start Nick Pivetta (8-2, 3.36 ERA) in the first game against Phillies (50-35) righty Mick Abel (2-1, 3.47 ERA), with Dylan Cease (3-7, 4.53 ERA) set to start the nightcap and facing left-hander Christopher Sánchez (6-2, 2.79 ERA).

Both games will be broadcast on the Padres Television Network, with radio coverage on KWFN 97.3 FM and XEMO 860 AM. The 10:05 a.m. contest will also be televised by MLB Network out-of-market.

This will be the Padres first doubleheader of the campaign. Last season they played one twin-bill against the Atlanta Braves on May 20, 2024, and split with a 6-5 win in game one and a 3-0 loss in game two.

Cease started the first game, with the Padres rallying to score the final six runs and getting getting four runs in the eighth inning on a two-RBI single by Jake Cronenworth and an eventual game-winning two-RBI double by Manny Machado. In the second game Randy Vásquez allowed 3 runs over six innings with a pair of strikeouts, but the Padres couldn't crack Braves starter Chris Sale, who allowed five hits and struck out nine in seven innings.

During the 2023 season San Diego played a pair of doubleheaders, dropping both games to the Arizona Diamondbacks on August 19 and also losing both games at Philadelphia on July 15.

In addition to Padres-Phillies, the July 1 games of the Detroit Tigers visiting the Washington Nationals and Milwaukee Brewers at New York Mets were postponed due to weather.
