LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as one of the top contenders to land Damian Lillard following the Milwaukee Bucks’ surprising decision to waive the All-Star guard and stretch the remaining $113 million on his contract, according to updated odds from BetOnline.ag.

The Lakers are listed at 7/1 odds to be Lillard’s next team, trailing only the Miami Heat (4/1), Denver Nuggets (5/1), and Portland Trail Blazers (6/1) — Lillard’s longtime former team. The Minnesota Timberwolves (8/1), Boston Celtics (9/1), and San Antonio Spurs (9/1) round out the early frontrunners.

Lillard, 34, spent just one season in Milwaukee after being acquired in a blockbuster trade from Portland in 2023. He averaged 24.6 points and 6.8 assists in the 2024-25 season before suffering a torn Achilles. The Bucks’ decision to part ways with Lillard cleared the cap space needed to sign center Myles Turner to a four-year deal.

The Lakers, who recently re-signed LeBron James and are continuing to reshape their roster under new head coach JJ Redick, could be an attractive destination for Lillard as he looks to join a contender in the later stages of his career.

Oddsmakers also posted updated futures for Giannis Antetokounmpo’s potential next team, with the Lakers listed at 25/1. The Spurs (9/4), Heat (4/1), and Knicks (4/1) lead that list.
