Jun 21, 2025; Anaheim, California, USA; Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano (59) receives standing ovations from fans as he comes out from a game during the seventh inning against the Houston Astros at Angel Stadium.

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Angels starting pitcher José Soriano has found it on the mound in June. Coming off yet another stellar start Saturday night, this time against the division rival Houston Astros, the 26-year-old threw 6.2 innings of one-run ball while fanning 10 Astros. It did not look like this for Soriano in his first start of the month, as he was tagged in a loss against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits through 3.2 innings.

Ever since that blip of a start to begin the month, Soriano has fired on all cylinders on the mound. Soriano's performance against Houston is coming off a stretch in which he has been practically unhittable, and in his last 14 combined innings pitched before Saturday night, facing the New York Yankees and Athletics respectively, he has punched out 18 hitters while only allowing one run.

"It's been really fun to watch the last three starts, but we've seen it building. I think the consistency is better," Interim manager Ray Montgomery said after Soriano's start Saturday night.

With his performance Saturday night, he also picked up his first win of June and improved to 5-5, which seems out of the ordinary to put out there, considering the numbers, but the Angels were involved in two close games against the Yankees and Athletics in both of Soriano's starts.

“I have been working on my mechanics, my pitches, and I think that has been a big part of the results I have been having,” Soriano said in his post-game presser coming off his third straight quality start.

Currently, Soriano is sustaining a 3.39 ERA in 93 innings pitched this season with a 1.42 WHIP and will look for his fourth straight quality start as his next outing is set to be against the Washington Nationals next weekend.
