LOS ANGELES -- A day after the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres were involved in a benches-clearing scuffle, MLB and Michael Hill, MLB’s Senior Vice President for On-Field Operations, have just announced a wave of suspensions to those who were involved. Padres pitcher Robert Suarez has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally hitting Shohei Ohtani with a pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning of Thursday night’s game at Dodger Stadium.

The suspension of Suarez had been scheduled to begin tonight as the Padres are set to host the Kansas City Royals at Petco Park. However, Suarez has elected to appeal. Thus, the discipline will be held in abeyance until that process is complete.
In addition, both managers – Mike Shildt of the Padres and Dave Roberts of the Dodgers – have received one-game suspensions and undisclosed fines for unsportsmanlike conduct and for contributing to inciting the benches-clearing incident. Shildt and Roberts must serve their respective suspensions tonight as the Padres play the Royals and as the Dodgers host the Washington Nationals.
