Mason McTavish, Lukas Dostal contract updates taken in Anaheim (Anaheim Ducks)

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The offseason for the Anaheim Ducks is already in full gear. After acquiring 34-year-old veteran winger Chris Kreider, the Ducks are clearly focused on moving past the rebuilding label and fully pushing toward contention.

As part of that plan, Anaheim Ducks GM, Pat Verbeek is working to secure key young players already in the organization, while also adding to his current roster via Free agency and through the Draft.

On the 100% Hockey With Millard & Shannon podcast, Verbeek gave a clear update on the contract status for RFAs Mason McTavish and Lukas Dostal.

Verbeek confirmed that talks with McTavish’s camp have not yet started. “I have not spoke to Pat Morrison, who’s McTavish’s agent yet,” Verbeek said, adding they’ve only had some initial calls about “talking about talking.” No offers have been exchanged at this point, which is a different situation compared to Dostal.

Drafted third overall in 2021, McTavish has become a key part of Anaheim’s young core. The 22-year-old center finished the 2024–25 season with 22 goals and 52 points in 76 games, bringing his career totals to 60 goals and 140 points in 229 NHL games.

Meanwhile, negotiations with Dostal are further along. “We’ve exchanged offers. Dosty’s agent has gone on vacation, so now we will wait a little bit until he gets back and then we will pick up discussions and go from there,” Verbeek said.

Dostal, 24, played a career-high 54 games this season, earning 23 wins with a 3.10 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. Since being drafted 85th overall in 2018, he has appeared in 121 NHL games and is projected to be a key piece in goal moving forward.

Dostal was recognized this week by being named to their countries’ initial rosters for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Dostal and Ducks' captain Radko Gudas will represent Czechia, while goaltending prospect Damian Clara was named to Italy’s preliminary roster for Milano Cortina.
