SAN DIEGO — After an extra-inning victory for the Dodgers on Monday, the Padres bounced back with an 11-1 win on Tuesday at Petco Park, playing in front of a sold-out crowd of 45,084.
It was a bullpen game for the Dodgers, and it started off rough for their relief pitchers. Right-hander Lou Trivino opened the game by pitching a scoreless first inning on 18 pitches. He was followed by right-hander Matt Sauer, who also delivered a scoreless second inning. However, things began to unravel in the third inning when the Dodgers’ bullpen faced challenges with two outs.

Jackson Merrill crushed a cutter from Sauer to right field for a triple, bringing Machado home from first and giving the Padres a commanding three-run lead.

Sauer pitched 4 and 2/3 innings, allowing 13 hits and nine earned runs, along with three walks and six strikeouts. The most significant hit he gave up was a 381-foot home run to Martin Maldonado, marking Maldonado's third home run of the season. This home run ignited a three-run inning in the sixth.
The game appeared to be slipping away from Dave Roberts when he decided to bring in his secret weapon for blowout situations. Hernandez stepped onto the mound with confidence and pitched 2 ⅓ innings to finish the game. He allowed three hits and one earned run, along with two walks.
There was no offense from the Dodgers in the first seven innings until Michael Conforto delivered an RBI single in the eighth inning. This marks Conforto's fourth hit in the last six games.
