SAN DIEGO -- The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-hander Matt Sauer and designated right-handed pitcher José Ureña for assignment. Sauer will be taking the bulk of innings tonight and leading off on the mound for the Dodgers, as it is a scheduled bullpen game.
Sauer, 26, returns for his fourth stint with the club, and he is 1-0 with a 3.05 ERA in seven games. Last season, he made his Major League debut as a member of the Kansas City Royals and went 0-0 with a 7.71 ERA in 14 games. The right-hander has pitched in six games with Triple-A OKC, which have lasted three innings, including five starts. He recorded his first major league win on April 29 and his first major league save on May 7.
As previously mentioned, Sauer will be taking the bulk of the innings in tonight's game against the San Diego Padres due to Tony Gonsolin being placed on the IL on June 7 with right elbow discomfort.
Ureña, 33, pitched in two games for the Dodgers, allowing one run in three innings. He came from the Toronto Blue Jays, where he made six appearances, going 0-0 with a 3.65 ERA. He started the season with the New York Mets, making one appearance and allowing five runs in 3.0 innings. He has been in the Majors 11 seasons with the Miami Marlins (2015-20), Detroit Tigers (2021), Milwaukee Brewers (2022), Colorado Rockies (2022-23), Chicago White Sox (2023), Texas Rangers (2024), Mets (2025), Blue Jays (2025) and Dodgers, going 44-77 with a 4.78 ERA in 241 games.
