Once again, the Los Angeles Angels came up short against the Seattle Mariners as they were taken down 9-3 on Wednesday afternoon at T-Mobile Park. After getting swept in the two-game series, the Angels are now 12-17 and 7-13 on the road. Perhaps more importantly, they await the status of Mike Trout, who exited the contest early in the top of the fourth inning.

Despite a quality start from Tyler Anderson that kept Los Angeles within striking distance through the first six innings, Reid Detmers failed to record an out as a six-run seventh from Seattle propelled them to victory. Across his six frames, Anderson allowed just two runs and four hits as he struck out five.

The 35-year-old lefty was taken deep by Randy Arozarena in the second before Leo Rivas added an RBI single four batters later that gave the Mariners their second run of the frame. However, from innings two to six, Anderson allowed only one hit as he did a stellar job recovering and keeping the Seattle lineup from adding on.

Detmers would come on in the seventh to relieve Anderson, ultimately tossing his worst outing of 2025 thus far. He allowed five consecutive hits to begin the inning before being removed. Now 0-1 with a 5.59 ERA, the fourth-year man has had a rough start to the new campaign in his first season out of the bullpen.

A two-run single from J.P. Crawford, an RBI double from Julio Rodriguez a run-scoring single from Cal Raleigh all made it a 7-3 game before Ryan Johnson stepped in to try and limit the damage. Rodriguez made a slick play, diving under the ground ball from Raleigh to allow it to escape into the left field grass. Johnson surrendered a two-run single to Leo Rivas after recording the first two outs, which made it a 9-3 as Nolan Schanuel could not make the play on the grounder to first.

Los Angeles was outscored 9-2 to close the contest after taking an early lead on an RBI single from Logan O'Hoppe. Jorge Soler even helped to tie the score at two in the third inning as he hooked a home run down the left field line for his fifth of the season.

Zach Neto also got himself an RBI on Wednesday, grounding into a fielder's choice in the fourth that made it 3-3 before Seattle's eventual seventh-inning eruption.

All of the Angels' runs came off Mariners' starter Emerson Hancock, who matched Anderson's six innings but allowed nine hits and a pair of walks. After allowing six runs in 2/3 of an inning during his first appearance of the year, Hancock has now bounced back with three consecutive quality starts.

Following an 0-5 road trip that dropped Los Angeles all the way down to last in the AL West, they will return home on Thursday and look to reverse their momentum. The Detroit Tigers will come to town as the two squads begin a four-game series.

Left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (0-4, 4.31 ERA) will get the start for the Angels as he continues to hunt for his first victory. The Tigers will send out right-hander Casey Mize (4-1, 2.12 ERA), who has been a key piece of the Detroit rotation thus far.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:38 p.m. PT.

Injury news:

After grounding out in the top of the fourth inning, Mike Trout would not return to the game as he was replaced by Jo Adell. Manager Ron Washington noted that Trout felt some soreness in his left knee when he hit the first base bag and was removed as a precaution.

Following the game, Trout said that his knee is already beginning to feel better and that he's going to try and play on Thursday.
