LOS ANGELES -- It's a girl! Following the birth of his daughter, Shohei Ohtani has been reinstated from the paternity list and designated outfielder Eddie Rosario for assignment. Ohtani missed the first two games of the Dodgers' current series against the Texas Rangers as his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, was expected to give birth to their first child.

"I am so grateful for my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy beautiful daughter," Ohtani stated in his Instagram announcement post. "To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents."

Ohtani, 30, returns to the lineup this afternoon and will bat in the leadoff spot. The 2024 National League MVP has played in 20 games for the Dodgers this season, slashing .288/.380/.550 with six homers and eight RBI.

Rosario, 33, played in two games for the Dodgers, recording one hit in four at-bats.
