Los Angeles Angels infielder Zach Neto (9) celebrates after sliding into second base during the MLB game against the San Francisco Giants Friday April 18th, 2025 at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, Calif.

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- In a pitchers duel between Tyler Anderson and Logan Webb, Zach Neto's first at bat in the second inning was the difference maker in a 2-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

Shortly after Nolan Schanuel hit his fourth double of the season in the second inning, Neto hit an RBI double towards left field giving the Angels an early 1-0 lead. Neto later scored in the next at bat after Kyren Paris reached first base on an error towards shortstop.

"He looked like he's been swinging the bat," Angels manager Ron Washington said. "... I was wondering what would happen when he saw better pitching but it looked like he never missed any beat."

Jo Adell was the next batter to come up in the Angels lineup and he hit a double sending Paris to third, giving them a chance to double their lead.

As Taylor Ward came up to the plate, Webb was able to limit the damage the Angels caused by getting him to ground out and end the inning. Adell finished the night with the only other two hits in the game going 3-3 to end his night.

Neto's RBI double came in his first at bat since coming off the injured list after having shoulder surgery over the offseason.

As Big Poppa by Notorious B.I.G. piped through the speakers at Angels Stadium for Neto's walkup song, the crowd erupted in a blaze for the 24 year old shortstop.

Giants catcher Patrick Bailey called for a curveball that Webb would deliever. Neto swung his bat and shot the ball towards shortstop, only for the ball to bounce off of Willy Adames glove, allowing the ball to reach left field, bringing home Schanuel.

Despite the early offensive impact the Angels had in the second inning, Webb dominated them for the remainder of the game, throwing 6 innings with 4 hits and 12 strikeouts.

Anderson was able to match the duel presented to him by Webb by going 6 innings as well and striking out 6 batters and giving up only 3 hits, keeping the Angels in the game until the very end.

Anderson is now 2-0 to start the season and has struck out 21 batters in four appearences for the Angels.

"We were in a position where needed someone to step up and give us a good outing and it was Tyler Anderson again," Washington said. "He kept the battle of the bats. He kept them off balanced. He was certainly in control tonight."

Washington credited Anderson for mixing up his fastball on Friday and getting batters to chase after it.

"Sometimes I feel like they're sitting on that or maybe they're sitting on fastball and it's are job, myself, the catcher and (Barry Enright) and (Sal Fasano) to try to figure out guys approaches." Anderson said.

The Angels finished the night by having Brock Burke and Ryan Zeferjahn come out and pitch in relief during the seventh and eighth inning, setting up Kenley Jansen to pitch in his first game in six days.

In the seventh inning, the Giants offense was looking to make some noise late in the game after Tyler Fitzgerald reached on a single. Lamonte Wade Jr. fired a sure enough hit towards a gap near second base but Kyren Paris made a sliding catch to stop any aspirations of a late inning rally by the Giants.

"We needed that play and he came up with it. That's just a sign of his growth."

With the Angels forced to protect a close lead in the ninth inningh, Kenley Jansen came out onto the mound. Jansen needed just 16 pitched to get the next three batters out and earn his third save of the season.
