EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Chargers have made a free agency re-sign, bringing back edge rusher Khalil Mack on a one-year deal worth $18 million, which is fully guaranteed.
Mack returning was something Jim Harbaugh had said multiple times during the offseason that he wanted. On their appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, “Pay Khalil Mack, Joe.”
The edge rusher has been a true defensive leader since being traded for in 2022. In three seasons, he has 31 sacks, 163 tackles, and 49 tackles for loss.
There was uncertainty about whether Mack would return to the NFL after their playoff exit, but after speaking to his family, he returned.
Mack was said to have interest from other teams, but when speaking to reporters after the season, he said he wouldn’t want to go anywhere else and that he believes he can win with Harbaugh and quarterback Justin Herbert.

He will have a new running teammate on the opposite side, as Joey Bosa was released last week to save a little more than $25 million. There are some options.
The team does have Tuli Tuipulotu and Bud Dupree on the roster, but they need another edge rusher like Giants Azeez Ojulari, Raiders Malcolm Koonce, or Eagles Josh Sweat, to name a few.
Now, the Chargers could create an interesting dynamic by trading with Cincinnati for Trey Hendrickson and giving him the money they saved from Bosa. He is coming off back-to-back 17.5 sack seasons and is still only 30 years old. Mack and Hendrickson make a dynamic duo, and it may be the best pass-rushing duo in the NFL.
The Tampering Window has begun, so expect more movement as the Chargers still have a whole roster to fill out.
