SAN DIEGO -- The Anaheim Ducks announced on Friday that they have recalled goaltender Ville Husso from the San Diego Gulls after Ducks starting goalie John Gibson suffered a lower-body injury from a collision during their game against the Vancouver Canucks.

Husso, who was acquired at the end of February from the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations, has played in three of the last four games for the Gulls.

During that stretch, he has recorded two wins, including a 4-0 shutout in his debut against the Calgary Wranglers and a 5-4 overtime victory over the San Jose Barracuda.

Since stepping in for teammate Oscar Dansk, Husso has a total of 83 saves, a 3.37 goals against average and a 0.892 save percentage.

Before arriving in San Diego, the 6 '3, 205 lbs Helsinki native played for the Grand Rapids Griffins from 2023-2025 posting a 9-4 record with 357 saves, a 2.70 GAA and a 0.895 SV%.

For the 2024-25 season, Husso has played in 16 games with the Gulls and the Griffins, posting a 10-5 record with a 2.83 GAA and 0.908 SV% and three shutouts.

With 18 games left in the regular season, the Gulls will turn back to Dansk as their starter. Just before being recalled by the Ducks prior to the end of February, Dansk has played in 28 games this season in the AHL with a 10-10-4 record, a 3.45 GAA and a 0.886 SV%.

Before the announcement of Husso, the Gulls announced that they recalled Russian goaltender Vyacheslav Buteyets from the Tulsa Oilers of the ECHL. The 6’ 5, 210 lbs goalie has played in 26 games (13-9) for the Oilers, posting a 2.78 GAA and a 0.904 SV%.

With a loss in his only start, Buteyets has played in two career AHL games with the Gulls allowing six goals during those contests.

RYAN CARPENTER AHL PLAYER OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY

On Monday, San Diego Gulls forward Ryan Carpenter was awarded as the AHL’s Player of the Month for February.

Carpenter, 34, finished with a total of 16 points (6 G, 10 A) in 11 games for the Gulls, which co-led for the most points on the team alongside defenseman Tristan Luneau (1 G, 15 A).

The native of Oviedo, Florida notched a new career high nine-game point streak scoring 14 points (5 G, 9 A). Carpenter was also leading the Gulls with a +12 rating and finished with five multi-point games.

Following the All-Star break, Carpenter kicked off the month scoring a goal in back-to-back games, including the overtime winner against the Ontario Reign on Feb. 8. The team captain finished with at least one assist in his next five games (1,1,2,3,2).

Carpenter helped his team add a timely two points on Feb. 22 against Bakersfield, scoring his second OT winner of the month.

The 6’1, 200 Ibs forward is currently third on the team in points with 39 (16 G, 23 A). The only players ahead of Carpenter are right-winger Sasha Pastujov with 42 points (17 G, 25 A) and Luneau with 40 points (6 G, 34 A).

Carpenter has also appeared in all 53 games for San Diego this season and is also tied for the most powerplay (7) and shorthanded (2) goals on the team.

Carpenter becomes the second player in team history to be presented this accolade after Pastujov earned the award the previous month.

The recent contributions by Carpenter and the rest of the Gulls has sparked a late playoff push.  Behind the Chicago Wolves by seven points for the last playoff spot, the Gulls hope to return to the postseason for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
