ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Angels have agreed on a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with Yoan Moncada per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Moncada is an eight-year veteran third baseman who has spent most of his MLB career with the Chicago White Sox.

Moncada played in just 12 games last season for the White Sox after dealing with a left adductor strain that kept him on the injured list for most of the year.

In the 12 games he played last season, Moncada saw a significant decrease in his exit velocity where it reached a max of 115.8 to an average of 90.2.

Moncada has a career 14.3 WAR, .756 OPS, and a .254 batting average.

In 2023, he appeared in 92 games, spending multiple stints on Chicago's injured list due to a lower back injury. That season, he had a .730 OPS with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs.

Moncada was once considered a top prospect within the Boston Red Sox organization and appeared in four games for the Red Sox in 2016 until he was traded to Chicago with three other prospects for Chris Sale in 2017.

In 2017, he played 54 games at second base for the White Sox. In 2018, he made the move back to his primary position at third base and played in 149 games.

Moncada will likely serve as a backup third baseman for the Angels as he will play behind Anthony Rendon who has appeared in just 257 games for the Angels and has yet to play over 60 games in a season.

Moncada is the third acquisition across the Angels infield this season behind Scott Kingery and Kevin Newman. They also signed his former Chicago teammate Tim Anderson to a minor league deal earlier this offseason.
