ANAHEIM, Calif; -- The Angels have reportedly signed Tim Anderson to a minor league deal according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. The club has not confirmed.

Anderson is a nine-year veteran shortstop and second baseman who will get the chance to make the Angels' opening day roster.

Before coming to the Angels, Anderson has been selected as a two-time American League All Star selection and was a 2020 Silver Slugger winner.

Over the last two seasons, his offense has regressed while playing for both the Marlins and White Sox. In 2023, he had a career-high in strikeouts (122). Last season, he appeared in just 65 games for the Marlins and held a .214 batting average while tallying nine RBIs and zero home runs.

The likelihood of Anderson making the Angels roster will come down to his veteran experience and solid defense at shortstop and second base.

Angels manager Ron Washington has been known across the MLB for being known as an "Infield Guru" and Anderson could be next in line to revive their career under his coaching.

The move to add Anderson to their roster comes down as a depth move for the Angels as he is the third infielder they have acquired this offseason behind Kevin Newman and Scott Kingery.

While the three of them will be competing for a spot, the Angels will also have Kyren Paris looking to make the opening day roster and Christian Moore who has already been listed as a top 100 prospect in the Angels minor league system according to Baseball America and MLB.com.

Right now, shortstop Zach Neto is expected to start the season on the Angels injured list after having shoulder surgery over the offseason, and the team also has a hole at second base as a reunion with Brandon Drury continues to grow unlikely.
