LOS ANGELES —  The Dodgers are overwhelming other teams in attracting players. Free agent right-hander Kirby Yates has reached a deal with the Dodgers, pending a physical, as reported by Bob Nightengale.

Yates had an impressive season in Arlington last year, participating in 61 games. He recorded a win-loss record of 7-2 and had an outstanding ERA of 1.17. Over the course of 61 2/3 innings, he earned 33 saves and struck out 85 batters.

The Dodgers recently signed left-hander Tanner Scott, but they also view Yates as a valuable option for the lower part of their bullpen because of his strong right arm. With Michael Kopech and Brusdar Graterol expected to miss some time at the beginning of the season, Yates provides the Dodgers with a boost in right-handed pitching for late-game situations.

Yates, 37, has made a successful return from Tommy John surgery in 2022, completing three healthy seasons since. He pitched one season with the Texas Rangers in 2024 after spending two seasons with the Atlanta Braves from 2022 to 2023. Prior to that, he played four seasons with the San Diego Padres from 2017 to 2020.

The Dodgers are positioning themselves to have the greatest pitching staff in history. The addition of Yates to the bullpen is more than Dave Roberts anticipated, but it could help the Dodgers achieve something no team has accomplished in 25 years: winning back-to-back World Series championships.
