San Diego Gulls right winger Yegor Sidorov (19) scores the game winning shootout goal against Ontario Reign goalie Erik Portillo (1) during an AHL hockey game, Friday, December 27, 2024 in San Diego, Calif.

SAN DIEGO -- Yegor Sidorov went undrafted in 2022, a moment that could have deterred many young players. Instead, it fueled his determination. The Anaheim Ducks saw his potential and drafted him a year later, selecting him in the third round (61st overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft. Now the 19-year-old winger from Belarus is proving his worth in his first AHL season with the San Diego Gulls.

Sidorov's junior career with the Saskatoon Blades in the WHL was nothing short of remarkable, tallying 199 points in 177 games. He carried that momentum into the AHL, where he has already registered 21 points in 32 games this season. Adjusting to professional hockey hasn’t been without its challenges, but Sidorov has embraced the process. “I think for me, it’s not bad. It’s a young team with lots of good prospects. We support each other,” he shared, reflecting on his transition.

One of the biggest adjustments has been adapting to the AHL’s pace and physicality.

“It’s faster, and there’s heavy forechecking all the time,” Sidorov said.

Despite these challenges, Sidorov has steadily acclimated, showing growth in his game with each outing.

When asked about potential NHL opportunities, Sidorov remained grounded.

“Honestly, I’m just focusing on the present right now. My goal is to make the NHL as soon as possible, but for now, I’m working hard and showing my best.”

His dedication to development is evident, as he values the trust his coaches have shown in him.

“I’m playing a lot, and I really appreciate it.”

The Ducks fanbase has also been a source of inspiration for the young forward.

“The fans have been really good to me," said Sidorov. "I appreciate their support and belief in me.”

Looking ahead, Sidorov has clear goals for his career.

“I want to keep improving and make it to the NHL. But for now, I’m focused on getting better every day.”

His journey from being undrafted to becoming a standout prospect speaks volumes about his resilience and determination, making him an exciting player for Ducks fans to watch as he continues to develop.
