The Los Angeles Kings fell to the Calgary Flames 2-1 after struggling to find a way to get past Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf.

The game-winning goal would come from winger Jonathan Huberdeau five minutes into the third period on the power play. After the initial shot from winger Matt Coronato, Huberdeau found the rebound and slid it past Kings goaltender Dave Rittich.

The Flames’ first goal was scored by Coronato during the middle stages of the second period. As Los Angeles was trying to clear its own zone, winger Blake Coleman stole a puck along the boards before feeding Coronato in the slot for the score.

Los Angeles’ only goal would come during the opening frame from defenseman Jacob Moverare. After a bouncing puck came loose to the blue line, Moverare let a shot fly high blocker which found the back of the net. This was his first goal of the season and second goal of his career.

Moverare’s shot was the King’s 14th shot of the night only six minutes in. Totaling 32 shots, the Kings strongly outshot the Flames who only managed to test Rittich 18 times in the matchup. Where Calgary did excel was the hits category. In a rare occurrence, the Kings were outhit 20-to-10.

The relatively physical bout peaked when wingers Tanner Jeannot and Ryan Lomberg dropped the gloves at center ice during the second period. The fight ended with Jeannot bringing down Lomberg, though both sides threw some solid punches.

The Kings will travel next to play the Edmonton Oilers on Monday in their third straight Canadian matchup of four.
