LOS ANGELES -- Multiple wildfires in Los Angeles County have burned down over 1,100 structures, claimed at least a handful of lives and displaced thousands in the area. As the most destructive fire in the region's history raged on Wednesday, it impacted many sports teams, athletes, coaches and companies in the region.
Rams-Vikings playoff game relocated to Arizona
The NFL announced it is moving the Los Angeles Rams-Minnesota Vikings Wild Card playoff game from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. to State Farm Stadium, the home of the Arizona Cardinals, in Glendale, Ariz. The game will still kickoff at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
"In the interest of public safety, Monday’s Vikings-Rams Wild Card game has been moved from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA to State Farm Stadium, the home of the Arizona Cardinals," the NFL announced today. "The decision was made in consultation with public officials, the participating clubs and the NFLPA.The game will be televised on ESPN, ABC, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes at its scheduled 8:00 p.m. ET time.Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. PT Friday morning through Seatgeek.com for Rams Season Ticket Members and Noon PT to the general public. More information on ticket sales will be provided as soon as possible"

Lakers-Spurs game and Clippers-Hornets game postponed (1/11/25)
The Los Angeles Lakers' game against the San Antonio Spurs at Crypto.com Arena and the Los Angeles Clippers' game against the Charlotte Hornets at Intuit Dome, both scheduled to be played at 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, were postponed by the NBA and will be played at a later date, the teams and the league announced.
"The National Basketball Association games scheduled for Saturday between the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena and between the Charlotte Hornets and LA Clippers at Intuit Dome have been postponed due to the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area," the NBA announced in a statement. "The dates for the rescheduled games will be announced at a later time.
"The NBA and the Clippers and Lakers organizations have been in communication with local officials in Los Angeles and Inglewood about the ongoing situation in the Los Angeles area and the game postponements ensure no resources will be diverted from the wildfire response efforts."
"The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association are donating one million dollars for immediate relief to the American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen and other organizations to support those affected by this disaster and are working with the Lakers and Clippers on ways to support longer term assistance and rebuilding efforts. Lakers-Hornets game (1/9/25) postponed
The Los Angeles Lakers' game against the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday night at Crypto.com Arena was postponed and will be played at a later date, the team and the NBA announced.
"The National Basketball Association game scheduled for tonight between the Charlotte Hornets and Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena has been postponed due to the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area," the NBA announced in a statement. "The date for the rescheduled game will be announced at a later time. The entire NBA family sends its thoughts and support to the community of Los Angeles during this challenging time. We are grateful for the thousands of local firefighters and first responders who have demonstrated enormous bravery. Our prayers remain with those affected by the unimaginable devastation caused by the wildfires."

NHL postpones LA Kings-Flames game (1/8/25)
The Los Angeles Kings' game against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night at Crypto.com Arena was postponed and will be played at a later date, the team and the NHL announced.
"Our hearts are with our entire Los Angeles community," the LA King announced in a statement. "We appreciate the hard working First Responders who are diligently working to contain the fire and protect our community. We appreciate the League’s support in keeping our fans, staff, and players safe. For those with tickets for tonight's game, please hold on to your tickets. There is nothing you need to do. The tickets will still be valid for the rescheduled date. More information and ticketing options will be communicated directly once the game date and time are confirmed."

Kawhi Leonard leaves Clippers before Nuggets game to be with family (1/8/25)
Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard traveled with the Clippers to Denver on Tuesday but he returned to Los Angeles on Wednesday to be with his family that was impacted by the fires in Southern California.
The Clippers ruled him out for Wednesday night's game against the Denver Nuggets. The Clippers will immediately return home to Los Angeles after the game.

ESPNLA 710 transmitter damaged as station goes dark
The transmitter for ESPNLA 710 AM was damaged during the Altadena fire and the station was down all day Wednesday and cancelled all local shows and remotes this week. The radio station is the play-by-play home of the Lakers, Rams, USC, and Kings in Los Angeles. USC announced their men's and women's basketball games against Indiana and Maryland, respectively, will not be heard on the radio on Wednesday.

JJ Redick loses home due to wildfires
Lakers coach JJ Redick said his family evacuated from their home in Pacific Palisades on Tuesday and offered his condolences to all impacted before the Lakers lost to the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday. ESPN's Shams Charania later reporter that Redick and his family had lost their home due to the fires.
