The Dodgers made a big splash in the trade market right at the deadline.
They acquired right-handed starter Jack Flaherty from the Detroit Tigers, the crown jewel of Tuesday's trade deadline.
Flaherty has had an impressive season with a 2.95 ERA, 19 walks and 133 strikeouts in 18 starts. The Tigers had pulled Flaherty from his scheduled start Monday.
The Tigers received first baseman Thayron Liranzo and shortstop Trey Sweeney. According to MLB Pipeline, Liranzo is ranked as the Dodgers' No. 8 prospect, while Sweeney is ranked No. 22 on the top-30 list.
The Tigers signed Flaherty to a one-year, $14 million contract in December. He is set to become a free agent after this season, so he is a short-term acquisition for the Dodgers.
Los Angeles continued to add more talent at the buzzer as the Toronto Blue Jays parted ways with outfielder Kevin Kiermaier. In return, the Blue Jays received left-handed pitcher Ryan Yarbrough, who was designated for assignment on Monday.
This trade marks a significant move for both teams as they look to strengthen their rosters.
Kiermaier has won four Gold Gloves in the outfield and is known for his exceptional defensive skills. However, his performance at the plate has been lacking this season.
He has a batting average of just .195, an on-base percentage of .236 and a slugging percentage of .610. He also has a high strikeout rate of 30.4% and a 53 wRC+ in 81 games played this season.
