The Padres have acquired closer Tanner Scott and reliever Bryan Hoeing from the Miami Marlins, in exchange for four prospects.

San Diego is all in this trade deadline as they add one of the top closers in the league in Scott. He has been dominant over the past two years and currently boasts a 1.18 ERA with 18 saves and over 45 innings pitched.

Scott is a flamethrowing lefty whose fastball sits in the upper 90s and his slider-fastball combination is one of the best in baseball. The 30 year old is not afraid to pitch to contact, despite his command issues.

Scott was expected to be traded this deadline because of his one-year contract, and the Padres took full advantage to beef up their bullpen. San Diego's bullpen is 19th in ERA, so a closer like Scott should instantly make an impact and help with the playoff push.

Included in this deal is 27-year-old Hoeing. Hoeing shouldn’t make as quite an impact as Scott, but he still has been formidable this year, logging in a 2.70 ERA.

Scott and Hoeing join newly acquired Jason Adam and All-Star closer Robert Suarez to make San Diego's bullpen one of the deepest in baseball.

The new relievers came with a price, as the Padres sent Miami a big haul of prospects: Robby Snelling, Adam Mazur, Graham Pauley and Jay Beshears.

Baseball America had Snelling ranked as San Diego’s No.3 prospect and Mazur as No.4, Pauley was also ranked No.6 and Beshears No.29. Mazur and Pauley have both made their MLB debuts but struggled.

The Padres also added left-handed pitcher Martín Pérez from the Pittsburgh Pirates for left-handed prospect Ronaldys Jimenez. Perez has logged a 5.20 ERA this season.
