Dodgers trade with Rays to bring back infielder Rosario (Los Angeles Dodgers)

One day away from the MLB trade deadline, the Dodgers made their second deal Monday, acquiring Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Amed Rosario for minor league pitcher Michael Flynn.

It marked the second consecutive year the Dodgers acquired Rosario near the trade deadline. He was dealt from the Guardians in exchange for Noah Syndergaard last summer.

Rosario had a solid second half with the Dodgers after the trade, hitting .256 in 48 games.

Last offseason, he signed a $1.5 million contract with the Rays. This year, he has demonstrated his versatility by playing multiple positions, including 2B (21), 3B (14), SS (12), and RF (20) and could be a valuable addition to the Dodgers.

Rosario has maintained an impressive .307 batting average, with an on-base percentage of .331 and a slugging percentage of .417 over 275 plate appearances for Tampa Bay this season.

The Dodgers acquired reliever Michael Kopech from the Chicago White Sox earlier in the day as part of a three-team trade.

Flynn has not performed as well as expected this season, with a 4.95 ERA over 36 1/3 relief innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City. As a result, the Dodgers are searching for a right-handed batter and utility player who can make a contribution in October.

Flynn, who was a sixth-round pick for the Pirates in 2018, previously played in the Mariners' farm system before joining the Dodgers this season.

Left-hander Ryan Yarbrough was designated for assignment to make room on their 40-man roster. Yarbrough had a 3.74 ERA in 67 1/3 innings this season.

However, his performance has been less than stellar, with an 8.9% walk rate and a 13.9% strikeout rate.
