FINAL: Oregon State 21, San Diego State 0
SAN DIEGO — It's the first FBS test of the season for the San Diego State Aztecs as they welcome the Oregon State Beavers to Snapdragon Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kick off.
The Aztecs (1-0) opened with a 45-14 home win over FCS Texas A&M-Commerce, as running back Marquez Cooper ran for 223 yards on 27 carries with two touchdowns — only Marshall Faulk had more rushing yards in a debut game for the Scarlet and Black. Oregon State defeated FCS Idaho State 38-15 at home, as the Beavers ran the ball on 78.3% of their plays for 362 yards and picked up 24 first downs on the ground.
Both programs have first year head coaches, as Sean Lewis was announced as the Aztecs head man when Brady Hoke retired at the end of last season. Trent Bray was elevated to Oregon State's head coach spot after serving as defensive coordinator for the previous three seasons. Bray is in his second run with the Beavers, he was previously a graduate assistant then linebackers coach from 2012-2014 and then returned to Corvallis in 2018 to coach linebackers after three seasons at Nebraska.
The two teams met last year at Reser Stadium, with then No. 16/17 Oregon State picking up the 26-9 win. The Beavers scored the first 12 points of the game and out-gained SDSU by a 475-326 margin in total offense, with a 191-70 edge in rushing — the Aztecs drove into OSU territory on nine of 11 drives. Oregon State holds the all-time series edge at 4-2 and has won the last four meetings. SDSU's last win over the Beavers came in 1975, winning 25-0 on the road at then Parker Stadium.
