San Diego FC entered their second-to-last match of the 2026 season officially eliminated from MLS Cup playoff contention following Wednesday night's 4-1 loss at Vancouver.
Despite being out of the playoff race, SDFC still had a season series on the line against St. Louis, looking to not only snap their lengthy winless streak but also complete the season sweep.
San Diego FC had already gotten the better of St. Louis in their earlier meeting of the season, with the Chrome & Azul claiming a 2-0 victory at Snapdragon Stadium back on March 1.
The decisive, game-winning, and only goal of this Halloween afternoon matchup came late in the first half, with SDFC’s star forward Anders Dreyer making the difference.

The opening score came off an Alejandro Alvarado piercing defensive half outside-the-foot through-ball pass into the attacking half for the unmarked Anders Dreyer, as the Danish forward caught goalkeeper Ben Lundt way off his line to loop his shot into the empty net for the 1-0 lead in the 39-minute.

Dreyer’s 15th goal of the 2026 MLS season came off Alejandro Alvarado’s third assist of the campaign.
St. Louis’ biggest scoring chance of the game came in the first minute of second-half stoppage time, with SDFC defender Manu Duah preserving his squad’s slim 1-0 lead with an off-the-line clearance to deny forward Simon Becher after he had lobbed goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega in an attempt to equalize.

The final whistle shortly followed at Energizer Park, sealing SDFC's 1-0 Halloween Day victory over St. Louis to bring an end to their 10-match winless streak.
At the other end of the pitch, Pablo Sisniega delivered a commanding performance between the sticks, finishing the match with six saves to record his first MLS clean sheet of the season.
Saturday’s result gave the Chrome & Azul the season series sweep, as they claimed victories in both home and away meetings while keeping St. Louis scoreless.
The win marked the first time SDFC had claimed all three points since Aug. 29, when they defeated SoCal rivals LA Galaxy 3-1 at Snapdragon Stadium.
SDFC had to look even further back for their last win away from home, dating back to Aug. 15, when they left BMO Stadium with a 1-0 victory.
San Diego FC return to Snapdragon Stadium next Saturday for their final matchday of the 2026 season, closing out their campaign against Sporting Kansas City on Nov. 7, with kickoff set for 4 p.m. alongside the rest of the Western Conference Decision Day games.
