INGLEWOOD, Calif.- - — Day Two of the NFL Draft is now in the books with most teams hoping they walked away with a player or two that has a bright future but can also make an instant impact on their roster.
The Rams after shocking the football world by taking quarterback Ty Simpson in the first round. Made another interesting move by drafting Ohio State tight end Max Klare with the 29th (61st) pick in the second round.
Klare was viewed by some experts as to having a third or even fourth round grade. He is a player looked at as what Scouts Inc. calls “a zone buster but also has the capability to create separation versus man coverage.” After early struggles with drops in his time at Purdue Klare fix the issue with the Buckeyes. He offers some yard after the catch ability and has just enough speed to stretch a defense vertically. Being selected this high, it seems Los Angeles will find some time for him to touch the field.
Klare joins a tight end room with Colby Parkinson, Tyler Higbee, Terrance Ferguson, and Davis Allen. Note that Parkinson and Allen will be free agents in 2027.
The Rams ran 13 personnel 31% of the time last season. Maybe the Rams will try sending out four tight ends at times this season.
Many fans were thinking if a pass catcher was selected it would be a wide receiver but it was not so.
In the third round, Los Angeles filled a need drafting a potential starter or swing tackle when they selected tackle out of Missouri, Keagen Trost. The former FCS offensive lineman finished his college career at Missouri where he was known for his good footwork and balance, which helps him control his blocks and set the edge in pass protection. Trost enters the league at 25 after seven years in college. He played right tackle at Missouri but has shown he could play both spots. Many experts feel he is the Rams best pick so far this draft.
Unless a trade or two is made the Rams will be sitting and waiting a while to pick another player. Los Angeles hold four picks on Day Three but none until the 6th round. They hold picks 207 (6th) and three 7th round picks (232, 251, 252).
Will the Rams finally add a wide receiver? Rams’ fans are wondering and will be watching but with these late picks the best available player may be the route GM Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay goes.
