Fresh off the heels of a homestand that felt as if it had everything, the Los Angeles Angels hit the road to face the Cincinnati Reds in a three-game set on Friday.
Below, you can find the team previews, including where to watch, game details, injury reports, and odds.
TEAM PREVIEWS:
Angels (6-7): Fresh off a homestand split of a 3-3 record, the Angels are looking to bounce back from consecutive quiet losses to the Atlanta Braves.
Jorge Soler, the team’s hottest hitter, should be good to go in Cincinnati. The slugger was recently suspended 7 games by the MLB for his involvement in a brawl with the Braves’ Reynaldo Lopez on Tuesday, but is currently appealing the suspension. Soler has hit a home run in back-to-back games heading into Friday.
The Angels will line up all righty starters against the Reds, who sit towards the bottom of the league at 26th in team OPS against right-handed pitching.
Jack Kochanowicz will look to build off a solid start on Friday, and George Klassen will follow Saturday for his second career start. Despite flashes of his swing-and-miss stuff, Klassen will look to build off an outing that saw his day until before he was about to finish off three innings.
Aiming to continue his historic start to the year, José Soriano will toe the rubber in the series finale.
After his most recent tune-up against Atlanta, Soriano became the first pitcher since Johnny Cueto in 2018 to throw over 20 strikeouts along with just one run allowed in at least 20 innings through his first three starts of the year.
Mike Trout made his return to the lineup on Tuesday after being hit by pitch on Sunday, but has still struggled after a strong season-opening series. Though a small sample, Trout is hitting .190 in his first 11 games this season.
Right fielder Jo Adell is coming off a loud offensive series against the Braves and will look to keep things going, recording multiple hits in each game of their series and going 7-for-12 at the plate.
Reds (8-5): Cincinnati has had a strong start to the season, but is coming off dropping the final two games of a series against the Miami Marlins.
Pitching has held most of the ground in their success. Despite recent injuries to Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo, the Reds have combined for a team ERA of 3.36, filling in their rotation nicely.
Offensively, the Reds have lacked. They have recorded a team OPS of .617, which sits in the bottom-three in the MLB. Rookie Sal Stewart has stood out as the team’s hottest bat early on, hitting .364 and leading the Reds in just about every offensive category.
Starter Chase Burns has been a standout, as the 23-year old with electric stuff has delivered two very strong starts to open the year. He will pitch the series opener on Friday.
The Reds will throw lefties Brandon Williamson and Andrew Abbott on Saturday and Sunday. The Angels have struggled in the early parts of the year against left-handed pitching, yielding a team OPS of .578 against them.
