Malik Tillman delivered the defining American performance of the week, turning a Champions League start into a statement showing for Bayer Leverkusen. Starting just behind Patrik Schick against Villarreal, Tillman played a central role from the opening minutes, pressing aggressively and consistently finding space between the lines. His work paid off early. In the 12th minute, Tillman forced a mistake under pressure, blocking a rushed clearance from goalkeeper Arnau Tenas that ricocheted into the net for Leverkusen’s opener. It was a scrappy goal, but it reflected his activity and intensity high up the pitch.

Tillman’s second was far more emphatic. Ten minutes before halftime, Alejandro Grimaldo’s cross was headed down by Schick, and Tillman met it with a controlled half-volley into the bottom-right corner. The finish capped a dominant first-half display in which Tillman repeatedly found dangerous positions, nearly adding another with a driven effort deflected wide earlier in the match. Leverkusen cruised to a 3-0 win, comfortably securing their place in the Champions League play-offs, with Tillman scoring both of their first-half goals.
He followed that performance with another goal on the weekend against Eintracht Frankfurt. Tillman started again and struck in the 33rd minute, finishing from the center of the box after a pass from Christian Kofane. Beyond the goal, he remained involved on both sides of the ball, winning free kicks in attack and defense and supplying a late first-half cross that nearly produced another goal. Tillman was substituted late as Leverkusen closed out a 3-1 win, rounding out a week that featured three goals across two competitions and steady involvement throughout.
While Tillman set the tone, Weston McKennie and Folarin Balogun shared the stage midweek in Monaco as Juventus and Monaco played to a scoreless draw in the Champions League. McKennie started on the right side of a Juventus front three and was involved early, taking a shot inside the opening minutes and later delivering a cross that just missed its target. Juventus struggled to generate clean looks, but McKennie remained active, keeping plays alive along the wing and competing consistently in duels.
Balogun led the line for Monaco and was their primary outlet in transition. He had a goal ruled out for a foul in the buildup and later tested Mattia Perin with a curling effort that was comfortably saved. Monaco’s best moments often came when play went long toward Balogun, though support was limited in the final third. The draw suited both sides, as each advanced to the play-off round.
McKennie followed that up with a strong league performance against Parma. Playing as an attacking midfielder, he scored Juventus’ second goal just before halftime, adjusting his run to meet a cross from Pierre Kalulu and volleying into the bottom-right corner. The goal came after a tense first half in which McKennie was booked and briefly reviewed for a potential red card before escaping further punishment. He continued to contribute in transition before being substituted in the second half, as Juventus pulled away for a 4-1 road win.

Balogun returned to league action on Saturday against Rennes and made an immediate impact. He assisted Monaco’s opening goal on a fast break, setting up Ansu Fati to give the hosts the lead. Balogun remained involved until the 56th minute, when he was forced off with a hamstring injury. Monaco went on to win 4-0, but Balogun’s injury now looms as a concern after he exited early despite a productive start.
In Scotland, Auston Trusty continued to build momentum with Celtic in European play. Starting at center back against Utrecht in the Europa League, Trusty scored a crucial second-half goal, glancing a header into the top-right corner from a corner kick to restore Celtic’s two-goal cushion. He had earlier been involved in a VAR review after his header struck an opponent’s arm, leading to a penalty. The goal marked his second in the Europa League and helped Celtic secure a 4-2 win and a place in the knockout phase play-offs.

Patrick Agyemang rounded out the week with another goal for Derby County. Starting against Bristol City, Agyemang remained active throughout, taking multiple shots and drawing fouls before finally breaking through in the 66th minute. He scored Derby’s fourth goal with a header from close range, finishing off a cross from Joe Ward. Agyemang was substituted shortly after, capping a productive outing in a dominant 5-0 win.
