As the Las Vegas Aces aim to climb the playoff ladder nearing the end of the regular season, the team collected a 91-81 win against the Washington Mystics on Saturday, with A’ja Wilson recording 36 points and 13 rebounds.
This marks the team’s 10th consecutive win and Wilson’s 19th double-double of the season.
Wilson’s continued domination prompted oddsmakers to shorten her odds in the MVP race once again. A 100-to-1 longshot to win her second straight MVP and fourth overall just 15 days ago, Wilson is now the second choice at +150, behind Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier (-200), at the Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas.

“I don’t ever want to get used to or be like, ‘Oh that’s just normal,’” Aces coach Becky Hammon said. “It’s not normal, what she’s doing. The conversations for MVP, if I could have a vote for leadership, even stuff that has nothing to do with basketball, she’s the most thoughtful superstar I’ve ever been around. Always thinking about other people.”
On the court, it’s nothing unusual, as Wilson helped Las Vegas maintain the third seed, sitting just one-half game behind the Atlanta Dream, who defeated the New York Liberty earlier in the day.
Sixth player of the year candidate Dana Evans contributed 21 points, her 10th game of the season scoring double digits coming off the bench. Jackie Young put up 10 points for the Aces.
Mystics rookie Kiki Iriafen set a franchise record with her 14th double-double this season, scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds. Shakira Austin scored 18 and rookie Sonia Citron added 13.
The Mystics hit the ground running, putting the first points on the board and outscoring the Aces 26-19 in the first quarter while shooting 57%. Las Vegas responded in the second quarter by outscoring Washington by a dozen, giving the Aces a 44-39 lead going into halftime. The Mystics shot 16 of 19 from the free-throw line while the Aces were 5 for 5.
After the Mystics tied the game at 53-all in the third, the Aces used a 10-2 run to distance themselves and headed into the fourth quarter with a 68-61 lead. Wilson scored 10 of her points in the third and added nine in the fourth, while the Aces built their lead to as high as 18 in the final stanza.
The Aces finished 10 of 20 from behind the arc, with Evans making 5-of-6 attempts. Las Vegas ended the game shooting 52% overall (35 of 65). Young and Chelsea Gray each had eight assists, making up 16 of the team’s 27 helpers.
The Aces travel to Chicago next, to face former assistant coach Tyler Marsh and his Sky, before visiting the Dream on Wednesday in what could be a battle for the second seed.
“They’re taking charge of their own destiny,” Hammon said.
