On the heels of an impressive series win over the Texas Rangers, the Los Angeles Angels will look to continue a winning homestand as they host the Chicago White Sox with a three-game set over this weekend.
Below, you can find the team previews, including where to watch, game details, and injury reports.
TEAM PREVIEW
Angels: Los Angeles (53-56) cooled down a red-hot Rangers team that had won six consecutive games before losing the first two to the Angels. Their win Tuesday night cemented their stance on buying before Thursday’s 3 PM PST trade deadline, as the team now stands 4.5 games back of a wild card spot.
The Angels added relievers Andrew Chafin and Luis Garcia to their bullpen in a trade with the Washington Nationals, and added infielder Oswald Peraza from the New York Yankees. Otherwise, they stood pat in addressing their major needs and did not trade any of their multiple expiring contracts.
Simply put, the general manager Perry Minasian and the Angels are looking to win now with what they have.
Both Chafin and Garcia are expected to be active this weekend. Second baseman Christian Moore is nearing his return to the Angels, as he began a rehab assignment with Single-A Inland Empire on Wednesday.
White Sox: Chicago (40-69) has arguably played their best baseball all year since the second half of the season began. They have won three of their four series, going 8-4 in that span. They head into the series minimally depleted, having traded starter Adrian Houser and outfielder Austin Slater.
Houser had been the White Sox’s best rotation arm this season, posting a 2.10 ERA in 11 starts. His next start would have been Friday against the Angels, where the team has instead not announced a starting pitcher and are likely to see a bullpen game.
In their eight wins since the All Star Break, the White Sox have won seven of them by at least 4 runs or more. Their offense has been the highlight of their stretch, as rookies Colson Montgomery and Chase Meidroth have played a big part in that.
Meidroth was removed from the team’s game Wednesday after being hit by a pitch off his right dumb. He is listed as day-to-day, and should return to the White Sox lineup against the Angels.
