SAN DIEGO- After just two picks on day one of the 2025 MLB Draft, the San Diego Padres will be much more active on day two. Stay tuned for updates for rounds 4-20.
Michael Salina, RHP, St. Bonaventure - Padres, 4th
Salina is currently awaiting recovery from Tommy John surgery, but had a live arm prior to the injury. He sat in the mid 90's with his fastball and topped off at 102.
Salina pairs his fastball with a two-plane mid 80's slider and produces misses with both pitches. He lacks a third pitch and track record of starting, though athleticism and rough control should indicate he'll get a chance to start in development.
It's a relief projection so long as he has a return near his pre-surgery tools.
Salina posted a career 4.64 ERA with 90 strikeouts to 29 walks. Opposing hitters hit .239 against him in his junior year before injury.
Ty Harvey, C, Inspiration Academy (FL) - Padres, 5th
Harvey is a power-based prep catcher with a physique (6'2/215) that allows natural strength in his swing. Power projects above-average long-term and sits average raw at present.
His hit tool is mostly based on staying within the zone on swing decisions as a prep, though he may be fringy in pro ball. He should hit enough to get power upside.
Harvey is a good receiver behind the plate with average arm strength, though not an outstanding athlete.
Harvey slashed .571/.682/1.044 his senior year and was committed to Florida State.
Jaxon Dalena, RHP, Shippensburg University (PA) - Padres, 6th
Dalena (6'3/210) had a career 3.36 ERA with 182 strikeouts to 46 walks.
He had a record of 12-5 while at Shippensburg and tossed seven complete games. Opponents hit .214 against Dalena.
Kerrington Cross, 3B, Cincinnati - Padres, 7th
Cross was a fifth-year senior with loud performance that led to Big-12 Player of the Year honors. He has solid bat-to-ball skills with a pro-ready approach that should be tested in mid-minors quickly.
Cross has natural power that fits with a corner defense profile, where he'll man the hot corner. He is among the better of senior targets, although he has a minimal ceiling as a potential corner bench bat.
Cross slashed .396/.526/.647 in his senior year at Cincinnati.
Jamie Hitt, LHP, Oklahoma - Padres, 8th
Hitt was a fifth-year senior lefty reliever who is up to mid 90's with his fastball. He relies on fastball variance that includes upper 80's cutter.
Hitt is a relief performing senior sign. He posted a 3.82 ERA in 35 1/3 innings pitched. He totaled 108 strikeouts and 49 walks in his college career.
Will Koger, RHP, Arizona St. - Padres, 9th
Koger stands at 6'3, 205 lbs and transferred from Louisville to Arizona St. his senior year, where he posted a 6.38 ERA in 18 1/3 innings pitched.
Koger was a multi-sport athlete growing up in Kentucky.
Justin DeCriscio, SS, NC State - Padres, 10th
DeCriscio is a glove-first shortstop. He handles the middle infield well defensively, which should stick long term.
He has enough contact skills to see if his bat can carry to the upper minors and develop enough to sneak into bench projections. He has average physical tools.
Truitt Madonna, C, Ballard HS (WA) - Padres, 11th
Madonna is a power-centric prep backstop. He takes long, aggressive swings that lead to plenty of power projection, but diminishes his hit tool with some swing-and-miss.
The UCLA commit has the fundamentals to stick behind the plate long term. He also played quarterback in high school.
Madonna slashed .414/.562/.900 in his senior year.
George Bilecki, OF, Lewis University (IL) - Padres, 12th
Bilecki stands at 6'2, 195 lbs and slashed .359/.433/.806 in his junior year at Lewis.
Dylan Grego, IF, Ball St. - Padres 13th
Grego slashed .376/.388/545 in his junior year at Ball St. Solid frame at 6'1, 195.
Clay Edmondson, RHP, UNC Asheville - Padres 14th
Submarine reliever with a solid sinker-slider combination. His sinker plays heavy coming up from the floor and dipping back to the bottom of the zone.
His secondaries are moderate, with the slider pairing well with the sinker. Edmondson logged innings but likely doesn't start in development.
Ryan Reed, LHP, Pittsburgh- Padres 15th
Career 6.32 ERA. Tallied 132 1/3 innings pitched with 114 strikeouts and 52 walks.
Cardell Thibodeaux, OF, Southern - Padres 16th
Small thumping performer. Sneaky pop for his size at 5'8. He had a big performance between the SWAC and the MLB Draft League that likely led to selection over a NDFA contract.
He has some tools to play with that will probably become a fan favorite as affiliates, but will always have to play above his tools to flirt with the big leagues.
Tyler Schmitt, P, Illinois- Padres 17th
Landry Jurecka, RHP, Queens University of Charlotte- Padres 18th
6'2 195 frame. 3.21 ERA in his junior year with 88 strikeouts to 20 walks.
Jonathan Vastine, SS, Vanderbilt - Padres 19th
Glove first senior shortstop. Good hand-eye and fair bat-to-ball skills, but too many swing-and-miss to get to two-way upside.
Twitchy defender with above-average arm and traits to stick at shortstop long term. Organization filler defender whose bat could push to more.
Luke Cantwell, 1B, Pittsburgh - Padres 20th
Hit-over-power first baseman. Sneaky late-round bat as a senior sign. Organization filler type of player that can sneak towards upper minors with performance.
