LOS ANGELES — Dave Sharapan, a longtime Las Vegas sportsbook veteran and prominent voice in the sports betting industry known as the “Sportsbook Consigliere,” underwent cancer surgery this week at UCLA Medical Center.
Sharapan's wife updated friends, fans and followers of his status on Friday, posting on his X, "His surgery went well on Monday. Recovery is a slow process but little improvements every day! Now that Dave is in this battle, he isn’t on his phone much so posts will be few and far between. He says “Hi!” and THANK YOU to everyone that has reached out in any way. It’s a new beginning,"

Sharapan, a former sportsbook director and odds consultant, has become a familiar face and voice on sports betting television, radio and digital platforms. Known for his signature Pittsburgh sports hats and candid, often humorous analysis, Sharapan has built a loyal following under the nickname “Sportsbook Consigliere.”
Following his diagnosis and surgery, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to help Sharapan cover medical and recovery expenses. The fundraiser — titled “Help Dave Through His Fight With Cancer” — has drawn hundreds of donations and messages of support from friends, fans, and industry colleagues. As of Saturday, the campaign had raised more than $35,000.
“If you know Dave, you know he’s one of the best people in the industry — always giving, always helping,” sports betting content creator Matt Perrault wrote on LinkedIn. “Now he needs us to help him.”
A heartfelt post on Steve Ruddock's "Straight to the Point" Substack also urged readers to support Sharapan, writing: “Dave Sharapan, the co-host of the Bostonian vs the Book show, was recently diagnosed with cancer and will need surgery to have it removed. During his recovery time, Dave, a father of three, will be unable to perform his regular on-air talent roles, resulting in a significant financial burden."
