SAN FRANCISCO -- The Lakers close out their final California Classic Summer League game in comeback fashion as they defeat the San Antonio Spurs with a final score of 89-88.
Los Angeles was playing catch-up all game until a spark in the fourth quarter immediately put them in the driver's seat. Darius Bazley and Dalton Knecht would lead the charge in the fourth quarter, having scored the Lakers' last 17 points of regulation.
Knecht was feeling himself from beyond the arc with a little more than two minutes left on the clock as he drained two three-pointers; he shot 4-8 from deep in total, cutting the San Antonio lead by three. Bazley would secure the Lakers' victory after hitting a go-ahead put-back dunk on an offensive rebound from Knecht's missed layup attempt with 13 seconds left in the game.
The Lakers locked down the Spurs defensively and their hopes of regaining their lead back, a lead that stood at 14 points in the fourth, and secured the come-from-behind win.
Bazley, the 6'9 forward drafted out of Brockton, Massachusetts, has had himself an impressive summer showing thus far, not only offensively, but defensively as well. In his last two Summer League games, Bazley has compiled 22 boards and has shot 75 percent from the floor, which includes a team-leading 27-point double-double with 13 rebounds in Tuesday night's win.
Knecht seemed to finally find his groove on the floor after having a slow start to Summer League play. Knecht had 25 points on 9-18 shooting, along with eight rebounds in Tuesday's victory.
Cole Swider also had another decent Summer League outing, scoring 15 points on 5-13 shooting, along with four rebounds and a pair of steals, and blocks. Bronny James started in back-to-back Summer League games, but only contributed two points on 1-5 shooting.
The Los Angeles Lakers finish California Classic Summer League play with a final record of 2-1 and tied with the Miami Heat atop the standings. The Lakers head to Las Vegas riding some heavy momentum and look to utilize that as they face Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, July 10.
