SAN DIEGO — The Los Angeles Dodgers maintain their lead in the National League West Division, taking a solid two-game advantage after defeating the San Diego Padres 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Petco Park.

The Dodgers responded after a blowout win with Teoscar Hernández hitting a fastball for a much-needed home run. This was Hernández's first homer since May 2 and his 11th of the season. He crushed a go-ahead three-run blast that gave the Dodgers a 4-1 lead in the sixth inning.

Michael Conforto tied the game with a solo home run in the fifth inning. Conforto is now batting .175 with four home runs and 12 RBI this season.

The first four innings were scoreless for the Dodgers, with right-hander Randy Vasquez pitching 4 ⅔ innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out four on 70 pitches. Vasquez was pulled from the game after giving up the game-tying home run.

The first run of the game came in the second inning when Martin Maldonado walked with the bases loaded, drawing a run off right-hander Ben Casparius. Gavin Sheets later brought in the second and final run for the Padres in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Manny Machado. The top three hitters in the Padres’ lineup—Fernando Tatis Jr., Luis Arraez, and Machado—went hitless, going 0-for-10.

This was the Dodgers' second consecutive bullpen game, with Casparius starting and going four strong innings. He allowed three hits and one earned run, with two walks and 54 pitches thrown, while striking out two. A total of eight relievers came in to secure the series win for the Dodgers.

Freddie Freeman went 1-for-4 with a single after tweaking his quad on Tuesday. Dave Roberts mentioned that Freeman is still playing and managing the injury as he goes. Shohei Ohtani was hitless through his first four at-bats until he tripled in the ninth inning, igniting the fans late in the game. He scored the fifth run on an RBI single from Will Smith.
