INGLEWOOD, Calif. — WWE’s Money in the Bank delivered shocking returns, title shakeups and new championship contenders Saturday night at the Intuit Dome, highlighted by the surprise return of R-Truth and briefcase wins by Seth Rollins and Naomi.
In the main event, Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso scored an upset victory over John Cena and Logan Paul after interference from R-Truth, who made an unannounced return just a week after being “released.” Truth, reverting to his real name Ron Killings, hit Cena with a title belt behind the referee’s back, allowing Rhodes to deliver a Cross Rhodes for the pinfall.
The controversial finish came after widespread fan backlash to WWE’s storyline firing of R-Truth, and his return appears to set up a possible summer feud with Cena, whose in-ring future remains uncertain.
Earlier in the night, Rollins won the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match, outlasting Solo Sikoa, LA Knight, Bron Breakker, Andrade and others to claim the briefcase. Rollins, who won his first MITB contract in 2014, becomes just the third Superstar to win it twice.
On the women’s side, Naomi earned her first career Money in the Bank victory in a fast-paced opener. She outlasted Rhea Ripley, Roxanne Perez, Stephanie Vaquer, Giulia and Alexa Bliss to grab the briefcase and a guaranteed women’s title match.
In title action, Becky Lynch captured the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, defeating Lyra Valkyria with a handful of tights in a veteran-style finish. Dominik Mysterio successfully defended the men’s Intercontinental title against Octagón Jr., continuing his strong run since winning the belt earlier this year.
More than 17,000 fans filled the Intuit Dome for WWE’s annual ladder-themed event, which featured high-flying action, surprise appearances and potential storylines that could reshape WWE’s summer programming.
With Rollins and Naomi holding the briefcases and R-Truth back in the spotlight, all eyes now turn to when – and how – those contracts will be cashed in.
