The Vegas Golden Knights look to get right back into the series Monday night as the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs continues at 6:30 PT at Rogers Place. Edmonton currently leads the series 2-1.
Knights Last Game
Vegas won in the most dramatic of scenarios possible, scoring a goal with less than a second remaining in the third period to win 4-3. Oilers came out to a 2-0 lead at home early with two goals from Corey Perry, but then 54 seconds later, the Golden Knights would tie it 2-2 through goals from Nicolas Roy and Reilly Smith. Heading into the second period, the Golden Knights' longest tenured player, William Karlsson, would be giving Vegas a 3-2 lead heading into the third period. Under three minutes left in the third, Connor McDavid would score, making it 3-3 it would have seemed inevitable that another game in this series would head into overtime... but then, with only just the last play of overtime within the last five seconds of the third the Golden Knights would score a game-winning goal through Reilly Smith, winning 4-3 and gives Vegas a chance to tie the series up tonight.
Game Notes
Golden Knights are 2-2 all-time in series when trailing 2-1. Their two series wins when trailing 2-1 were in the last round against the Wild, when they led 2-1, and Vegas went on to win three straight to win the series 4-2. The second one took place in 2021, also in the second round, where they trailed 2-0, won four straight, and defeated the Avalanche in six games.
Reilly Smith's late winner went in with 0.4 seconds left in the third period, it was the third-latest goal in the history of the Stanley Cup Playoffs
Golden Knights are 6-0 all-time when Reilly Smith and William Karlsson score in a playoff game.
