As we round up the month of April and say hello to May, a wave of excitement is looming for all Formula One fans. We got a taste of what the season has in store for us in the opening five races, and May is surely going to be a pivotal month for the drivers and teams. It seems we have a true driver championship battle on our hands so the top contenders will be pushing to the absolute limit in order to make up ground or hold ground in the standings. Let’s take a look at what action May has to offer.
GRAND PRIX
MIAMI: May 2-4
IMOLA: May 16-18
MONACO: May 23-25
The sunshine state is set to host the first of three Grand Prix weekends in May. The forecast for the weekend looks beautiful on Friday, but Sunday is a completely different story. Friday is set to be mostly sunny with a high of 80 degrees, but on the opposite side, Sunday is predicted to have thunderstorms and rain which is set to add complex strategy calls to the pit wall. Coming off of a rest week, drivers will be revamped and ready to go racing around the 3.3 mile circuit that surrounds the Hard Rock stadium. Since Miami is the first U.S. race, teams often provide special livery designs for the Grand Prix. Kick-Sauber have already revealed their livery which consists of vibrant splashes of green that represents the talented art that Miami is home to. Ferrari decided to follow in the footsteps of their last Miami livery as they have added blue once again to their uniforms and car. But easily the most clean and majestic livery has to go to VCARB.
The VCARB 01 looks incredibly stunning with the pink, bubblegum vibe that has taken over the entire car. The team will be hoping that their results this weekend are just as sweet as their livery. Getting back to the race, last season Lando Norris claimed his first ever Formula One victory in Miami and boy would he like to replicate that result. Norris had a discouraging triple header which found himself surrendering the championship lead to his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri. Piastri on the other hand took charge of the triple header winning two races in a row and bumping up from fourth in the championship, to first.
After the Miami sprint weekend, the teams will pack up their bags and head over to Europe where the green lights will go out in Italy, and the crown jewel of Formula One, Monaco. Both tracks offer their own distinctive attributes which are special in their own ways. Monaco is home to the glamour and sparkles of Formula One and Imola is home to the passionate Tifosi fans who are dreaming of a double Ferrari podium at their home circuit.
THE SEAT
If having three Grand Prix weekends in one month is not enough for you, look no further than Netflix’s new addition, The Seat. This 45 minute documentary is set to deliver exclusive insight into how Mercedes team boss, Toto Wolff, decided to place all his chips on Kimi Antonelli. The documentary will premiere on May 5 which is just one day after the Miami Grand Prix. Not only will the process of Antonelli’s signing be revealed, but there will also be segments about Antonelli’s uprising and youth. It will be interesting to see how the documentary tells the story of a young kid in Italy who worked his way up to obtaining a spot in the pinnacle of motorsports.
