LOS ANGELES -- LAFC extended their unbeaten start to the MLS season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over New York City FC (NYCFC) on Saturday night at BMO Stadium.

The decisive moment came in the 86th minute when defender Ryan Hollingshead pounced on a poor clearance inside the box, rifling home a close-range volley to seal all three points for the Black & Gold.

It was LAFC’s second straight 1-0 win in MLS play and their third consecutive victory across all competitions by the same scoreline. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris played a key role again, making three crucial saves to secure his second successive league shutout and third overall this season.

Both teams struggled to create clear-cut opportunities in a tightly contested match. NYCFC defended well for most of the game but was ultimately undone by LAFC’s late pressure. An early injury to defender Tayvon Gray forced NYCFC into an early adjustment, with Mitja Ilenič coming on just eight minutes into the match.

The win marked LAFC’s first-ever victory over NYCFC, having previously recorded two draws and a loss in their prior meetings. With this result, the Chicago Fire remain the only MLS club LAFC has yet to defeat in league play.
