San Diego FC secures defender Luca Bombino on loan from LAFC taken at Snapdragon Stadium (San Diego FC)

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego FC (SDFC) has strengthened its backline with the addition of defender Luca Bombino, who joins on loan from LAFC for the 2025 MLS season. The agreement includes an option for a permanent transfer, with LAFC receiving a 2025 International Roster Slot in return.

“Luca is a promising young talent with tremendous potential,” said SDFC Sporting Director Tyler Heaps. “We’re thrilled to welcome him to the club and provide him with the opportunity to continue his development in San Diego.”

A native of Saugus, Calif., the 18-year-old defender has been part of LAFC’s system for the past eight years. He signed a Homegrown contract with the club on September 13, 2024, becoming the sixth player to make the jump from the LAFC Academy to the first team. Bombino was also a member of LAFC’s 2024 U.S. Open Cup-winning squad.

His journey began at the LAFC Academy at the U-12 level in 2018 before progressing to LAFC2, where he signed an MLS NEXT Pro contract in 2023. Over two seasons, Bombino appeared in 32 matches (29 starts), tallying two assists across 2,610 minutes of play.

On the international stage, Bombino has represented the U.S. Youth National Team at the U-17, U-19, and U-20 levels, earning 10 caps. He played a key role in the U.S. U-20 team’s run to the final of the 2024 Concacaf U-20 Championship.
