CALGARY, Alberta -- The Anaheim Ducks' three-game win streak has come to a close following a 4-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.

The Flames scored twice in the second period to give them a lead they would never give up followed by Matt Coronato's first career hat trick to put the finishing touches on the night.

Coming into Thursday night, as the Ducks are trying to make a push to become a playoff contender before the NHL trade deadline, they were looking to win their fourth straight game for the first time this season. Prior to the game, the Ducks offense was playing the best they have played all season, outscoring opponents 16-7 over their last three games.

Despite struggling to get anything going offensively in the second period, the Ducks executed an aggressive gameplan that resulted in them outshooting the Flames 31-30. The problem for Anaheim was they just couldn't find a way into Calgary's net.

"We started the game out well and I think there were moments where we were good," Jackson LaCombe said following Thursday night's game on the Victory Plus broadcast. "We just got sloppy in kind of the second there and we just couldn't catch up."

In the first period, the Ducks ended a season-long drought of not having a short-handed goal. With 8:06 left on a Calgary power play, Frank Vatrano received the puck from LaCombe and shot the puck on the left side of the ice for the first goal of the game.

Lacombe was awarded an assist for the second straight game while Vatrano has now scored three goals over Anaheim's last five games. He also has five points during this stretch.

"All the older guys help me so much. They just help me grow my confidence," Lacombe said. "To just play more offense in the game has been huge for me so that's something I'll continue to do."

In the second period, the Flames needed just the first and final minute to take the lead from Anaheim.

The Flames' first goal came within the first 15 seconds of the second period after Adam Klapka scored his first goal of the season. Klapka received the puck and winded his way around John Gibson in front of his net snuck it past him to tie the game at 1.

Their next goal was Coronato's first of the night after Leo Carlsson won a faceoff against the Ducks. After Carlsson would pass the puck to a Ducks defender, Coronato would later intercept the puck and fired it away into Gibson's net.

In the third period, Coronato would score twice within the final four minutes of the period. His second goal of the night came at the 3:50 mark of the period from a puck that bounced off the wall recovered by Blake Coleman. After Coleman lost possession of the puck, Coronato snuck it past Gibson for his second of the night. His final goal came at the 2:23 mark on an empty net goal.
