The Seattle Kraken defeated the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 in a back-and-forth battle.
The game-winning goal would come from center Chandler Stephenson on a tip in front of the net. After breaking into the zone, Stephenson fed winger Oliver Bjorkstrand, who shot it on cage for Stephenson to redirect past Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper only 1:37 into the second period.
Winger Jaden Schwartz scored a hat trick in the win, with his third goal coming on an empty net. His second goal came on a two-on-one scenario with center Matty Beniers, who fed Schwartz at the right circle and hit a one-timer above the pad of Kuemper to put Seattle up 2-1. His first goal — and the opening goal of the night — would come only 28 seconds into the game. After the Kings gave up a turnover in their own end, winger Kaapo Kakko slid one across the ice to Schwartz, who one-timed it into the back of the net.
Los Angeles had a response to the initial two goals of Seattle, first with a power play goal six minutes into the first period. Captain Anze Kopitar received a pass at the goal line from winger Kevin Fiala before sending one to the back pipe to winger Adrian Kempe, who knocked in his 22nd goal of the year.
Their other goal of the night came with just over a minute left in the first period. Defenseman Jordan Spence tallied his third goal this season when he shot one from the point into major traffic in front of the cage that knocked down Seattle goaltender Joey Daccord. There was no goaltender interference on the play, so the goal stood, and the Kings tied the game 2-2.
Daccord had a very solid performance, with 28 saves on 30 shots, while on the other side, Kuemper had 18 saves on 21 shots.
The Kings will go back home and play the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
