OKLAHOMA CITY – In the first of a two game road trip, the San Diego Clippers (5-3) beat the Oklahoma City Blue (3-5) 116-113 at the Paycom Center.
Trentyn Flowers finished with a career-high 32 points, on a night they desperately needed it. He went an efficient 11-17 from the field, and helped the Clippers complete a comeback.
While the game was relatively close, San Diego was down for most of the game. At the end of the first they were down 8 points, but won the second quarter to cut the Blue’s lead to just 56-53 at halftime.
Kobe Brown was the one two-way player to remain with the G League squad, and his presence was much needed as well. He finished with 27 points and 6 assists. It should also be noted Cam Christie had 25 points of his own, resulting in the three starters that night combining for 84 points.
OKC won the third quarter however, which meant going into the final frame, the Clippers were down 5, 88-83. It took all their willpower to fight back, and on a 3 pointer by Christie, San Diego sent the game into overtime.
It was in this period where Flowers really took over, scoring the required 7 points needed to win the game, all by himself.
As for game statistics, the Clippers and Blue shot well, but to San Diego’s credit, they went 14-36 from the 3 point line, good for almost 39%, which is what they needed. In regular field goals they shot 46.6%. Defensively, they forced 23 OKC turnovers to their own 17, and still won the game despite being out rebounded 40-34.
Up next for San Diego is a matchup against the Capital City Go-Go. They’ll stay on the road and head to the nation’s capital. The game will be played at Entertainment and Sports Arena, and tip-off will be at 10 a.m. PT.
