The Los Angeles Kings were shutout 1-0 by the Edmonton Oilers in a low-scoring affair in which center Connor McDavid was the only player to hit the score sheet.

With a minute-and-a-half to go in the second period of play, center Leon Draisaitl raced down the ice to grab a loose puck before skating behind the Kings’ net. He then fed defender Darnell Nurse in the middle of the ice, who hit a shot off the pads of Los Angeles’ goaltender Darcy Kuemper before McDavid slammed the game-winning goal into the back of the net.

Kuemper finished with 29 saves on the night, holding the Oilers to only one goal. On the other side of the ice, Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner finished the night with 30 saves, marking his second shutout this season and fifth of his career.

Despite the Kings taking the first matchup of the season in overtime, the Oilers continue to be a thorn in the side of Los Angeles. They now move four points ahead of the Kings in the Pacific Division who are in third place.

Los Angeles will play their fourth straight game in Canada against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday at 7 p.m.
