SAN DIEGO -- Nathan Gaucher, standing at 6'3" and weighing 222 pounds, has always been known for his two-way forward capabilities and his ability to agitate opponents with his physical style of play. Born on November 6, 2003, in Chambly, Quebec, Gaucher was drafted 22nd overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft. Now in his second season with the AHL's San Diego Gulls, Gaucher reflects on his growth and what lies ahead.

Gaucher posted 25 points in 75 games in his first professional season with the Gulls. His production has dipped slightly this season, with 6 points in 33 games so far. Gaucher remains focused on his development, despite the drop in numbers offensively.

“You come in with a little more confidence. The coach knows what you can bring, and the team is familiar with your game. It’s still a tough league for sure, so you don't expect everything in your second year, but I’m happy with how things are going so far.”

Gaucher emphasized the importance of sticking to his strengths as a two-way forward, in order to make the NHL: “My style of game is my identity. Not a lot of guys can play that grindy, two-way center role. I want to score more goals and be the guy who helps the team win on the penalty kill and defensively. That’s where I can make a difference.”

In his journey to refine his game, Gaucher has drawn valuable lessons from veteran players like Ryan Carpenter. He highlighted Carpenter's influence as a "great two-way center," emphasizing the importance of learning from those who have competed at higher levels.

When discussing how the league’s intensity has influenced his development, Gaucher said, “The pace and physicality in the AHL are a big adjustment, but they’ve helped me grow. Seeing others execute at this level pushes you to match their intensity. It’s about constantly evolving.”

Gaucher remains grounded regarding his NHL aspirations, focusing on the present rather than speculating on when a call-up might come. His priority is working hard daily and contributing to his team's success in San Diego, with an eye on steady improvement to achieve his ultimate goal of reaching the NHL.

Nathan Gaucher’s size, skill, and commitment to his game make him a promising prospect for the Anaheim Ducks. As he continues to develop in the AHL, his dedication to growth and learning ensures he remains on the radar for a future NHL role. Fans and management alike are watching closely as he works to refine his craft and prepare for the next level.
