PALM SPRINGS, Calif — Tru Washington scored 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 rebounds, and Donovan Dent scored 17 points to lift New Mexico (6-2) to an 83-73 nonconference victory Friday over USC (5-3) before 310 at Acrisure Arena.
The Trojans lost two straight games at the Acrisure Holiday Invitational to New Mexico and Saint Marys. USC trailed for 69 out of 80 minutes in the two-game span.
USC finished with 16 turnovers to 13 assists. The Trojans found efficiency from three-point range, shooting 41 percent.
At halftime, New Mexico led 39-30.
The Lobos handled the Trojans in the paint, out-blocking the Trojans 5 to 0. New Mexico forwards Nelly Joseph and Atiki Ally Atiki each had two a piece.
Lobos’ Nelly Joseph scored 15 points. Mustapha Amzil had 10 points.
Trojans’ Josh Cohen had 14 points. Chibuzo Agbo had 13 points. Desmond Claude had 13 points.
