LOS ANGELES -- Lazar Stefanovic racked up season highs in UCLA’s victory over Southern Utah, 88-43.
So far this season, Stefanovic averages 16.8 minutes, 3.8 points, and 1.2 rebounds. These are all career lows in these categories for the senior guard.
After starting every game for UCLA last season, Stefanovic has only started in three of six games this year.
For UCLA to get their former starter back into rhythm, a wake-up call was needed. This game against Southern Utah provided the perfect spark.
Despite coming off the bench, Stefanovic was the most efficient player on the court. Stefanoic had 19 points off 8-12 field goals and 3-3 on three pointers.
The 66.7% field goal shooting matches his season high from the Rider game. The difference is that Stefanovic attempted nine more shots against Southern Utah.
To go along with his efficient shooting, Stefanovic grabbed five rebounds. This was the third most rebounds collected by any player.
Prior to this game, Stefanovic had seven total rebounds throughout the entire season.
Stefanovic provided scoring prowess and activeness on the boards. These were aspects Stefanovic was effective in the season before.
Last season, Stefanovic averaged 11.5 points and 6.1 rebounds. Tonight may be a sign that Stefanovic’s production will return closer to his prior averages.
UCLA now starts Big Ten play and will look to succeed in their new conference. For the Bruins to perform well in these games, Stefanovic needs to replicate his performance from tonight.
