LOS ANGELES –– Franz Wagner hit a go-ahead three-point shot with 2.5 seconds to lead the Orlando Magic (10-7) to a 119-118 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers (10-5) Thursday before 18,997 at crypto.com Arena. Orlando handed Los Angeles its first loss of the season at home and snapped a six-game Lakers winning streak.
After being the NBA's statistically worst three-point shooter, Wagner shot 40 percent from deep against the Lakers. He scored 37 points and 11 assists.
Los Angeles sits fourth in the Western Conference and is 1 1/2 games back from the number-one seed.
The Lakers took a 67-60 lead into the half, but Wagner used a 19-point second half to steal the win. The Magic, who have the ninth-best scoring bench in the NBA, outscored the Laker's bench 29-14. Los Angeles has the second-worst bench in the NBA, averaging 22.7 points per game.
With a chance to salt the game, LeBron James and Anthony Davis combined to miss four free throws in the final 39 seconds, allowing Orlando and Wagner to work their late-game heroics. Orlando shot 85.7 percent from the free throw line, while Los Angeles shot 65.4 percent.
Jalen Suggs scored 23 points, and Moritz Wagner scored 19 points off the bench for Orlando.
For Los Angeles, Davis scored 39 points and nine rebounds, and James scored 31 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
The Magic were without Kentavious Caldwell-Pope for personal reasons. Wendell Carter Jr. (plantar fasciitis) missed his 10th consecutive game, and Paolo Banchero (oblique) sat out.
Rui Hachimura missed his fourth consecutive game for the Lakers (ankle).
