Bronny James deserves to have full G League experience taken at UCLA Health Training Center (Los Angeles Lakers)

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- After Bronny James' second G League game of the season, two things are clear: the rookie deserves to experience what it's like to be a full-time developmental player (including away games), and he needs more time to grow into a serviceable NBA player.

The former USC and Sierra Canyon High guard would shot 2-for-10, finishing the game with 4 points in the South Bay Lakers' 127-122 loss to the Stockton Kings on Sunday night. The rookie guard would spend time playing off the ball (filling the off guard position) and occasionally finding himself inactive in the corner waiting for an open three during moments in the game.

Growing pains are to be expected for young players. The good news is the G League provides an opportunity for young players to hone their skills outside of the NBA. However, because Bronny is only scheduled play in home games for the South Bay Lakers, he is unlikely to enjoy the full benefit of the G League. With James still a work in progress, it is vital that he establishes consistency with his South Bay teammates, coaches, and against other players.

During his postgame press conference, South Bay Lakers coach Zach Guthrie was asked if Bronny would be playing in Wednesday's away game in Oceanside against the San Diego Clippers and he shared that Bronny's availability is "being discussed." Whether Bronny plays or not, it's clear that he should spend more time with the South Bay Lakers than the Los Angeles Lakers during his rookie season.
