SALT LAKE CITY -- For the second time this season, the Vegas Golden Knights needed to rally to beat the Utah Hockey Club.
William Karlsson scored twice in the third period to lead the Golden Knights to a 4-2 victory against Utah at Delta Center on Friday.
Adin Hill made 32 saves for Vegas, which improved to 11-4-2 on the season. Tomas Hertl also scored twice – both on the power play.
““First of all, ‘Hillsy’ really kept us in the in the game, especially in the first period,” Karlsson said. “A lot of credit to him. Obviously Tomas, too, buried the two goals in the power play, and that is the way to come back. We stuck with it, and eventually, we got rewarded.”
How the Goals were Scored
Utah took the lead in the first period when Logan Cooley took advantage of an Alex Pietrangelo turnover in the defensive zone. Cooley picked his corner and beat Hill clean at 11:16 of the first period.
Mikhail Sergachev extended the Utah lead to 2-0 in the second period, when he walked into the high slot area and blasted a shot past Hill on the power play.
Hertl scored his first of two power-play goals at 13:37 of the second period. He received a pass from Roy and got the puck past Karel Vejmelka’s short side.
Hertl struck again at 8:23 of the third period, again on the power-play to tie the game.
Karlsson scored the game-winner at 18:42, tipping in a Kaedan Korczak shot. Then 49 seconds later, Karlsson sealed the game with an empty-net goal.
“They certainly had their way in the first, especially in the last half of it. We were spinning our wheels a little bit, and they were making plays, and we weren't shutting those down close and quick enough,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “So we started to build our game in the second, and third, and eventually we found it. Our intensity level was good and we started executing a little better, put them on their heels, and that's what can happen. All of a sudden, now you're pushing and you're creating turnovers.”
