In a tight, low scoring matchup, the Calgary Flames took down the Los Angeles Kings 3-1 in a stellar performance from Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf.
Wolf finished with 28 saves and a .966 save percentage, allowing only one goal in the contest. In the later stages of the second period, Wolf made an outstanding right-pad save on Kings captain Anze Kopitar to keep the Flames up 2-0.
The ultimate winner for Calgary would come 11 minutes into the second period. Winger Jonathan Huberdeau tallied his sixth goal of the season on a breakaway chance where he beat LA goaltender Darcy Kuemper. Linemate and winger Andre Kuzmenko grabbed his eighth assist of the season after Wolf tapped a puck in his direction, which led to the full-ice stretch pass.
Center Mikael Backlund started the scoring for the Flames at the midway point of the game. After an odd breakout attempt that failed from the Kings defenders, Backlund let one fly from the right circle, which found the top right corner.
The Flames’ last goal was on an empty net by center Kevin Rooney.
The Kings didn’t go down without a fight, however. Winger Trevor Moore scored with 2:30 showing on the clock to break up the potential shutout. In an empty net scenario, Moore took a shot right next to the cage that looked initially to be saved before being ruled as a goal in the Kings' favor. This was their only goal of the night.
Los Angeles will look to shake off the loss before traveling to Colorado to face the Avalanche on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
