USC women's dominates in home opener versus Cal Poly

LOS ANGELES — JuJu Watkins scored 16 points, six rebounds, and four blocks, and Avery Howell scored 16 points to lift No. 3 USC (2-0) to a 90-35 nonconference victory Saturday over Cal Poly (1-1) before 5,215 at Galen Center. 

The Trojans cruised to their largest victory in coach Lindsay Gottliebs’s tenure, with a 55 point differential against the Mustangs. USC had six players in double figures. 

USC shot efficiently from the field at 44 percent. The Trojans forced 31 total turnovers and held the Mustangs to 32 percent from the field.

At halftime, USC led 57-17. 

USC contested shots throughout the afternoon, out-blocking Cal Poly 8-1.

Trojans’ Rayah Marshall scored 15 points and seven rebounds. Kiki Iriafen had 12 points. Malia Samuels scored 12 points off the bench. 

Mustangs’ Sydney Bourland scored 12 points, and Mary Carter finished with 11 points.
